RIT: Research Interaction Team on Weather, Chaos, and Data Assimilation

DESCRIPTION

This RIT on Weather, Chaos, and Data Assimilation stems from the Weather-Chaos Group at University of Maryland. The group studies data assimilation and related problems in the nonlinear dynamics of geophysical systems, from theory to operational applications in areas such as weather forecasting.

ACTIVITIES

Main activities of the RIT are:

Discussion of research articles and presentation by the RIT students.
Research presentation by the Weather-Chaos Group members.
Occasional research seminars by experts.

The RIT meets bi-weekly:

Schedule for Fall 2011: Mondays at 2:00pm, starting September 12.
Location - Computer and Space Science Building (CSS) Building, Room 4301.

Students are encouraged to attend occasional data assimilation seminars at

Atmospheric and Oceanic Science (AOSC): Thursdays at 3:30pm.
Location - Computer and Space Sciences (CSS) Building, Room 2400.
Center for Scientific Computation and Mathematical Modeling (CSCAMM): Wedensdays at 2:00pm.
Location - Computer Science Instructional Center (CSIC) Building, Room 4122.
